Terrific Kids
Being young leaders through practicing good character and good citizenship.
| Terrific Kids is a student recognition program that promotes character
development, self-esteem, and perseverance. Students work with their classroom
teacher and establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships,
attendance, or schoolwork. Students then work toward achieving the goal during
a specific time period. On the last Wednesday of each month, the Terrific Kids are recognized
during the "Character Luncheon" held at Watson Primary School. The Hunsville Kiwanis
Club sponsors the program for students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades.

For those students who achieved their goals, a special reward is on the way. On this special day,
their parents are invited to school to have lunch with their Terrific Kid, courtesy of the
Huntsville Kiwansis Club. Earlier that morning, our on-site coordinator, Sherri Cozad
presents each kid with a special Terrific Kids button to wear during the day.
Members of the the Committee on Young Children: Priority One and Youth Services
of the Huntsville Kiwanis are on hand to congratulate the kids and their parents as well as to
present several rewards.
During lunch, the kids and their parents are seated at a special table. They are called on-stage
and recognized by the professional staff of the school. Recognition
not only includes being pinned as a Terrific Kid, but each kid receives a special
bumper sticker, certificate, T-Kid refrigerator magnet, Terrific Kids zipper pull, T-Kids stickers, T-Kid pencil and ruler, a T-Kid penant and
a free kids meal courtesty of the Huntsville Sonic Drive-In. A group photo is made each
month and submitted to The Madison County Record as well as being published in our club
newsletter and posted on our website.
The Terrific Kids program provides teachers with a tool to reward students
for special achievements that may otherwise go unnoticed.
